What this site is

The Care Record explains public rules: who a program covers, what it pays, how to apply, and what an insurer has to do. We take those rules from official sources and show you where each one came from.

It is general information. It is not medical, legal or financial advice, and reading it does not make us your lawyer, your doctor or your financial adviser.

Not medical advice

We write about paying for care and the paperwork around it, not about treatment. Nothing here tells you what care your parent or spouse needs. Questions about health, medicines or the level of care belong with their doctor or care team. In an emergency, call 911.

Not legal advice

We explain what a program's rules and forms say. We cannot tell you how a rule applies to your family, and we cannot act for you. For a will, a trust, a power of attorney, a guardianship, a plan that involves moving assets, or a dispute headed to court, talk to a lawyer licensed in your state, such as an elder law attorney.

Not financial advice

Paying for care touches savings, income, a home and taxes. We explain program limits and rules as the agency publishes them. We do not tell you what to do with your money. A decision about assets, taxes or insurance deserves advice from someone who can see your whole situation.

Only the agency decides

Whether your parent or spouse qualifies for a program is decided by the agency or plan that runs it. We do not decide it, and no website can. Our pages tell you what the rules say and who makes the call. If you are not sure, ask the agency named on the page.

Rules change

Each fact shows the date we last checked it at its source. A rule can change after that date. Before you act on a figure, a deadline or an eligibility rule, open the source linked beside it, or call the agency, and confirm it still holds. How we verify explains our dates and checks.

Links to other sites

We link to agencies, laws, plans and official forms so you can check our work. We do not control those sites, and a link is not an endorsement of anything else on them.

If something is wrong

If you find a mistake, tell us through the contact form. We check every report against the source, fix what is wrong, and list the fix on our Corrections page.
